Fibre Art Designs

M'Lyn is the driving force behind all of the designs of Fibre Art that are on this web site.

She has the artistic talent to design Fibre Art in her head, knit it into an art object that is felted, then teach it to her students.  I have had the fortune to be one of her students.  The challenge was to try to inspect these lovely things and turn them into a pattern, so that I could make one just like it.  My yarns are of course different, but in some ways similar.

I never thought of myself as artistic in the past.  I have had so much fun taking my Spinning yarn failures and turning them into Fibre Art.  Once an object is knitted, then felted, the felting process covers up all the imperfections in the yarn.  Yarn that was too scratchy to be made up into something to wear, or has poor spinning spots in it, makes a great basket or bowl.  Playing with different color combinations is so much fun.  It opens up a whole new world for the Spinner, Weaver or Knitter.  Each basket/bowl comes out of the Felting process differently.  Same stitch pattern, same yarn, different results.  That is just the facts of life where felting is concerned.  I try in my baskets to make each one unique, so that they are one of a kind .  I change the way the accent yarns are knitted together.  On the hand dyed wool, each batch will come out a slightly different color after it is spun up, which also makes each basket one of a kind.  Some of them I love so much, will never be sold, they are Mine

At present there are three basic patterns available for sale, as well as some of the basket/bowls.  They are the Curly Top, the Swirl bowl, and the Flower Petal.  There are so many variations of these patterns that the sides, bottoms and top edges can be interchanged, when you put your imagination to work.  You will see many examples on these web pages of those variations, that both she and I have done.

It is our goal to share this wonderful Art form with the world.

M'Lynn and I hope that this will happen with this web site.
