Clark County Fair project - August 2003
The Clark County Spinners Un Inc group put together Demos in the Fibre Arts building for the ten days of Clark County Fair August 1-10th 2003.
Through a lot of work and long hours for some of the spinners, weavers, and knitters, we put together Demos of Spinning on Wheels and the Drop Spindle, preparing fibres, Knitting, Crochet, and Weaving, with teaching adults and children "how to". It was a very rewarding experience for all of us. We were very tired as we had to man the area from 9:00AM to 10:30PM each of the ten days. We had an area large enough to display many finished projects and fibres. Visitors could actually touch, (which fair entries are never allowed to be touched) and learn how to make them. The area also had a variety of other kid friendly projects that were ongoing.
The Fair liked our area so much that we were given a Special Award for it. Then if that was not enough of an honor - we won the much coveted Washington State Award for Excellence. That award is given out once each year during the ten days of the fair, to a group that the State has reviewed and considers worthy of it, for the Dedication of Decoration and Educational benefit to the public. Wow what an honor. We have been demo Spinning in the Sheep barn for 20 years, but never had enough room before, to show off the stuff that is done and let the public see it all, as well as take the time to teach. We hope to be able to do that again when the Fair has the room for us in the future. Below are some photos of the doing's at the fair of 2003. Harriet our Fair area Supt. is holding the State award ribbon. We just asked if we could do something like this and she pulled it all together, getting the Fair to give us the space.
