Clark County Washington Spinners Un Inc.
A group of folks who Use Spinning Wheels, Drop Spindles, Knit, Felt, Weave. Using a large variety of fiber's - Angora, Alpaca, Lama, Mohair, Wool, Rabbit, Silk, Cotton.
Why do we do it ~ it is very relaxing and we get a quality of yarn that you cannot purchase on the open market. Using a mixture of the above mentioned fibers, you would not believe the yummy stuff we get ~ to weave, knit or crochet with. Color and texture variation.
Meeting monthly on the first Monday of every month for the last 25years. No officers nor official group (hence the title Un Inc). We do donations to pay the church for our use of the place and electricity usage. We help beginners at no cost and have referrals to shops and supplies. Some of us Demo spinning on request at local activities and schools, as well as at our local County Fair. Some of the group meet at each others homes, call or email and ask about additional locations and dates for spinners.
Elim Lutheran Church
Corner of 182 Ave. at 159th St.
Hockinson, Washington, USA
The church is up above that intersection, on the hill top
The sign by the driveway reads: The Right Path But Not a Thru Street.
(In Southwest Washington state across the river from Portland OR)
Meetings held First Monday each month at 6:30/7:00PM to 9:00PM
Major Annual Holidays for 2007 closed:
January 1, 2007, which is the first Monday of the year
We are at the Fair doing Demo spinning in August, so ask if we will be open that Monday
Labor Day ~ September - Each year we skip to the following Monday
Weather Closures check this page the day of the meeting, if the weather looks icy, the web site will say closed. Hockinson is up in the hills a bit and can be tricky weather wise. Also many of our members come from up in the hills themselves and choose not to drive at night on frozen roads.
The Ridgefield Stitchery Group has several spinners having a good time on Wednesday of each week, 10:15AM to 1:00PM, the year around except on major holidays. We meet with them at the Library commons room. This is a no fee, drop in type of group, sponsored by the Library. Hours are from 10:15AM to 1:00PM, for the stitchery group. When spinners do come we sometimes stay longer and have a sack lunch (or if we feel really flush get a sandwich locally), then stay until 4:30PM. We must know that you are coming in the afternoon ahead of time or we get hungry and go home at 1:00PM. We can help beginners on Knitting, Spinning and some other hand craft projects. DIRECTIONS Ridgefield downtown is only two blocks long in any direction, you cannot get lost and it is easy to find, the Library is across from the Post Office on Main St. I-5 freeway - Exit 14, go West to the end of the road, turn right at the flashing red light on Main St, go one block to the Library. The door to our Commons room section is around the corner from the main door to the Library, there is additional parking in the rear of the building. If someone is using the smaller meeting room, we move to the back in the large room. Tea and coffee is always on and sometimes by Magic snacks show up. Spinning Wheels Service & Repair
The Clark County Spinning group highly recommends this gentleman, as we have watched him work his magic for 25 years on our wheels and others. Not only repairs and makes parts for old Antique wheels, can modernize an antique wheel, but is great at making the current models hum along like they should. He is close to the Portland Metro area.
